10 Apr The Origin of Knowing Another Initiative
Lifelong I have been interested in what brings people together and connects them. People relate around similarities. We find something that we have in common that makes us comfortable with another – whether it be “knowing Philadelphia” or “interest in the same books or sports team.”
I had a project of displaying a person’s areas of interest whether it be Artistic (A), Business (B), Ideas (I), People (P), Things (T), or Data (D). If you saw a display of letters you could know a person’s areas of human interest, and comment “you are artistic and social and so am I.” Listing areas of interest for people in your place of work, building, or community could led you to others with whom you would like to relate.
Another project of personal identity was intended to familiarize people with their own and others identity (culture, dress, values, language, etc.). This would lessen the uncertainty and anxiety felt by someone who is different, thereby promoting understanding and tolerance for people who are different. This would reduce ignorance, prejudice, and promote harmony between people.
